Movies of my Youth will focus on films that I viewed between the ages of 7-18. I will mostly stay in the action genre. I wanted to do this blog as a time capsule of my life and how certain movies bring back great memories from my life. That would cover the reflection portion of my blog. The review portion will cover if the movie still resonates with me or not. This blog might also inspire individuals to view these movies for the first time. Not to give away my age, but these movies will be 30 to 40 yrs old now.
One of my fondest movie memories occurred during the fall of 1991. The Morris Civic Auditorium was showing the Wizard of Oz on the big screen. I had seen the movie on the television many times. My grandmother wanted to take me to see it on the big screen. My 16 year old self was very reluctant to go with my grandmother. After some coercing by my grandmother, I decided to go. I was glad I chose to do this. The movie was so much better on the big screen and I had a greater appreciation for the movie. Plus it is a great memory I have of my grandmother, who has now been deceased over 6 years.
Movies bring back memories of friends and family that you have gone to see the movies with. In this blog I will give the background story of where and who I saw the movie with and give a brief description of where I was at that time in my life. I do this with other activities , but since this blog will be focusing on movies that will be the main focus. I could do this with sporting events and concerts as well.
My grandfather was an avid movie viewer. He was the person I first saw this frightening site with. Those twins scared the heck out of me when I was 10 or 11 years old. My grandfather also introduced me to this wonderful actor. Movie viewing can be enjoyed by all ages and different generations can introduce us to films we might never have considered viewing. Maybe this blog will have that effect on you.
The objective is to have people express their opinion on the movie being reviewed. It can be positive or negative feedback, but it must be constructive and there will be no swearing or attacking of other peoples opinions. This is supposed to be fun and hopefully some of you will share some fond movie memories with me on this page.

Hello, I really enjoyed reading your first post. As a child the Wizard of Oz was my favorite movie. I even had ruby slippers that I wore everywhere. I believe that movies can bring loved ones together and create incredible memories. Not when I was a child but just this past year I spent time with my grandma watching the new Elvis movie because she loves him. I was not very interested in watching it but I am glad I did because I spent time with her and she was happy.
ReplyDeleteI think you shared some great thoughts and ideas! I am excited to see your next post and I am glad you took an approach on childhood times. Great first post!
Is there a movie that is your favorite from your childhood?
On a side note, I would like to mention the section that is available to leave comments is in white writing against a white background. I could not find it without selecting command F to find to comments section. Just something to take into consideration I thought. Other than that everything looks great!
Thank you for pointing out the white on white background and text issue. I believe I have gotten that corrected.
DeleteHello! I am so interested in the topic of this blog. I myself am a huge movie and film buff and love to spend my free time watching reviews and analysis's of films on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteThe Wizard of Oz is a standout movie in my childhood as well. We always watched it at Halloween as a family and I even dressed up as Dorothy one year for Halloween and entered a costume contest (no I didn't win:( ), but the movie still holds near and dear to my heart and I still watch it every year during the Halloween season.
I haven't heard of the Frightening Site, but Horror is my favorite genre so it is something I will definitely have to check out!
I chose the wrong wording for the frightening site. Ijust wanted to illustrate that the twins in The Shining still freak me out.
DeleteHello! It is funny that your first mention is the Wizard of Oz--as it is one of my favorite movies of all time. I used to go to my grandmothers every Sunday as a child and that was the only movie we would watch all day. I used to watch it every year when it would come on TNT back in the day, and I even took my mother to see it as a play a few years back. I own two vinyl soundtracks of The Wizard of Oz as well, one is opened and just a regular black vinyl and the other is a 75th Anniversary edition that is emerald green. (Or at least it's supposed to be, I never opened it.) I am a huge movie lover so I will enjoy following your blog and seeing what is in store next.
ReplyDeleteGlas to see another Wizard of Oz fan. We also have grandmothers who were instrumental in giving us an appreciation of the film.
